Told my landlord I'd fix the leak myself after he showed up with duct tape

Spent $40 on a proper pipe wrench and some sealant from Ace Hardware. Fixed the bathroom sink drip in about 20 minutes. Has anyone else had to DIY something basic because your landlord refused to spend $15 on a real part?

Respect the hustle but that just lets them keep being cheap and lazy with everyone else too.

yeah but like, my buddy had this neighbor who'd always ask him to "just take a quick look" at their car because he used to be a mechanic. first time he did it for free, it was a loose battery cable. second time it was a blown fuse. third time the guy wanted him to replace the alternator with just a handshake and a "i'll owe you one". my buddy finally just told him his rate was $75 an hour and the neighbor got all offended. like, no dude, you're not my friend, you're someone who keeps trying to get free work out of me.
