Rant: My landlord's "professional" fix for a broken furnace...
So the furnace went out last Tuesday when it was 18 degrees overnight. I called my landlord and he said his buddy would come look at it. The guy showed up, banged on the pipes for like 20 minutes, then said it was fine. It ran for maybe 4 hours then died again. I called a real HVAC company on my own dime. They found the heat exchanger was cracked and the landlord's fix was just tapping the relay to make it start again. Cost me $120 for the inspection fee that I'll never see back. Has anyone else had a landlord try that kind of bandaid fix on something major?

I read online that cracked heat exchangers can leak carbon monoxide.
