New landlord tried to charge me for 'normal wear' on carpet after I lived there 4 years

Wait... did you get a move-in inspection report that documented the carpet condition back then? Because if that paperwork doesn't exist or if you never signed off on it, the landlord is gonna have a real hard time proving the damage was beyond normal wear. I'd ask for a copy of that report before paying a dime.

Three years ago I had a landlord try to keep my full deposit over some carpet stains that were already there when I moved in. I never saw a single piece of paper about the carpet condition. So yeah, I am a little skeptical when landlords make these claims without any proof. Most of the time they just hope you'll pay up without asking questions. Unless they have a signed document with photos, it's really just their word against yours.
