Landlord painted over mold three times before letting us move out

My landlady in Austin kept saying the black patches on the bathroom ceiling were just 'old paint spots' even after I showed her pictures from my phone. She sent her brother over with a roller and white paint three times in two months instead of actually fixing the leak. I broke the lease last week and she tried to keep my $1,200 deposit. Has anyone else had a landlord pretend a mold problem isn't real?

Did your landlady's brother at least bring snacks or something? My old landlord in Tacoma literally just threw a tarp over the roof leak and called it a day lol.

Honestly, your landlady sending her brother over with a roller THREE times is just wild. That's not even trying to fix it, that's like actively making the problem worse by trapping moisture under paint. Ngl, the mold was probably laughing at him every time he showed up with that cheap white paint. I can't believe she tried to keep your deposit too, that's so shady. Honestly, landlords who ignore mold should be required to live in that bathroom for a week so they can see what it's really like. I hope you reported her to the housing authority because that's straight up dangerous.
