Why does nobody talk about how paint cans explode when you drop them
I used to just grab any old screwdriver to pry open paint lids and never thought twice. Last week I dropped a full gallon of Behr from three feet up in my garage and it burst like a soda can, covering my floor and my shoes. Now I always open them on a tarp and keep a wet rag nearby. Has anyone else had a can just give out on them for no reason?

Did you shake it first or was that just from the drop?

You know, I used to be one of those people who would just toss paint cans on the shelf and forget about them until I needed them again. Dropping one seemed like no big deal. That changed real quick about two years ago when I had a five-gallon bucket tip over on a concrete floor in my shed. It didn't explode exactly, but the lid popped off and paint just poured out everywhere. I spent a whole afternoon trying to clean it up and it still looks like a Jackson Pollock painting in there. Your experience with the Behr can doesn't surprise me at all now.
