Unpopular opinion: Hand-sanding drywall gives a better finish than any power tool
Honestly, everyone seems to use electric sanders now, but I stick with a simple hand block. Tbh, I started out with guys who did everything by hand, and their walls were always super smooth. For example, on a big living room job, I hand-sanded the whole thing and got zero swirl marks or gouges. Ngl, power tools are faster, but they can mess up the paper face if you're not perfect. I see the rush to use new stuff, but I think we lose some craft when we skip hand work. My way might add a bit of time, but clients love how even the seams turn out. Looking back, the old methods just feel more reliable to me.

Question if hand-sanding is really that much better nowadays. I've seen walls done with good electric sanders that look perfect after painting. The time saved seems worth it, and most people won't notice a difference once the primer goes on. What kind of jobs make you stick to hand work?

Modern sanders are so much better now, they get that perfect finish without the crazy time sink. Speed matters on real jobs where the clock is ticking.

Man, you are so right about the clock ticking. That finish time really adds up fast when you're trying to get things done. Modern sanders are a lifesaver for the big, flat areas where you just need it smooth and ready. I still find myself reaching for a hand block for the little spots and weird corners though (like on some detailed trim work). It just feels like you have more control when you're right on top of it.
