Rant: wet mud on a ceiling corner collapsed and hit me right in the face

Was working a basement ceiling job in Toledo last Tuesday, didn't check the old patch properly, and 12 pounds of soaking wet compound dropped straight onto my head before I could even grab a trowel. Has anyone else had a ceiling failure mess up your whole day like that?

Damn man that sucks lol. I gotta push back a little on @grant_perry though. Poking around with a saw sounds like a good way to make a small problem way bigger if you hit the wrong spot. I had a ceiling drop on me in a hurry and now I just throw a tarp down and stand off to the side when I'm working under anything that looks iffish. If it falls it falls but at least it hits the tarp not my face.

I had about 15 pounds of old plaster let go in a 1920s house over in Perrysburg... thing was just hanging there from a previous leak. Now I always take a long drywall saw and poke around the edges of any suspect ceiling patch before I start working underneath it. Saved me twice this year already.
