Just realized I was wrong about taping knives after a job in Portland

I used to think a 6-inch knife was fine for everything, but trying to finish a 20-foot cathedral ceiling last month changed my mind. The bigger 12-inch knife let me lay down way more mud in one pass, cutting my time almost in half. Anyone else find themselves sticking with a small tool out of habit when a bigger one would work better?

Oh man, I feel this so hard. I did the same thing with drywall knives for years. I was so used to my 6-inch that I'd fight with a whole wall, doing a million little passes. Then I borrowed a 14-inch for a big flat section and it was a total game changer. It just floats over the surface and you get it so much smoother, so much faster. I was honestly kind of mad at myself for not trying it sooner.

My old boss in Seattle swore by the 14-inch knife for ceilings. He said the extra length helps you keep a steady angle and stops you from digging in the corners. I finally tried it on a big repair job and he was totally right, the finish was way more even.
