I used to think a 6 inch knife was fine for everything until a job in Denver

We were doing a big ceiling in a loft downtown and my buddy Mark pulled out a 12 inch trowel. He said to just try it, and man, the difference was crazy. Two passes and the joint was flat with way less sanding. Now I use the big knife for any joint over 8 feet. Anyone else switch up their knife size for bigger areas?

You really think a bigger knife is always better? I had the opposite happen on a long wall. That 12 inch trowel just left more ridges for me to fix later. I find my 6 inch is way easier to control on anything that isn't a perfectly flat surface. For big ceilings I still step up to a 10 inch, but anything bigger feels clumsy.

Wow @coleman.jade, you just changed my mind about using bigger trowels for everything.

Honestly, it's just a trowel. How much can it really change the whole job?
