Update: My dredge placement mix-up caused a really awkward chat

I started dredging without checking the new boundary markers for a coastal site. A park ranger pulled up in his boat and asked what I was doing in a protected zone, which was super embarrassing. We had to stop everything while I showed him my permits and old maps. Now I make sure to get a verbal okay from local authorities before I even unload the equipment.

Was the ranger at least understanding about it? Betty_scott18's point about online maps being unreliable is spot on, these things happen too often.

A buddy of mine who does land surveys once marked the wrong plot because he mixed up two client files. The homeowner came out yelling when he saw stakes in his flower bed. They had to bring the original deed down to the town office to sort it out. My friend bought him a case of beer to smooth things over. Now he takes a picture of the paperwork at the site before he even gets out of the truck.

Read about a similar mess where a construction crew dug up the wrong plot because the GPS coordinates were outdated. They had to pay a huge fine and delay the project for weeks. Your story reminds me of that, always double-checking those markers now. Heard some locals say the maps online aren't always updated either. Bet that chat with the ranger was super awkward, but at least you got it sorted. Good call on getting verbal confirmation, saves a lot of hassle.
