Tried running the cutterhead at 75% speed instead of max on a sandy job last week
I always thought full throttle was better but the material just wasn't breaking down right. Dropped it to 75% and the suction improved and I cut my fuel use by like 20 gallons that shift. Anyone else tweak speed based on the soil type?

Less wear on the cutter teeth too in my experience.

Wait, you're telling me my cheap carbide cutters might actually last longer than one project now?

Full throttle gives you the cutting power you need when things get tough. Dropping speed just means you're not chewing through the material, you're just wasting time and fuel on a pass that doesn't really get the job done right the first time.
