Overheard a guy say he runs his dredge pump dry for 10 seconds to clear clogs, is that actually safe?

I was at a marina in Biloxi last week and some older operator said he does that trick all the time, but I feel like running a pump dry even for a few seconds would wreck the seals. Has anyone else tried this or am I right to be worried about it?

Probably overthinking it, seals can handle a few seconds easy.

HAHA yeah right, because holding your breath for "a few seconds" is TOTALLY the same as a wild animal thrashing around underwater. I'd love to see how long anyone here lasts with a 200lb seal yanking them down while their nose is clamped shut. That's not breathing, that's PANICKING.
