That moment my laser level died halfway through laying out a foundation in Portland last August
I was 50 feet into a 120 foot layout on a cloudy Tuesday and the crosshair just flickered out, so I grabbed a 20 dollar chalk line from the truck and finished the whole thing by hand, has anyone else had a battery die at the worst possible time?

That "battery just died" moment hits different when you're already committed and there's no backup. It's funny how we lean on these fancy tools until they flake out, then remember the old school stuff actually works fine. Lately I've noticed everything from my phone to my drill seems to fail at the exact worst time, like the universe is testing whether you still know how to do it without the shortcut.

Battery timing is always terrible, but tell me this: did the chalk line actually hold up better than you expected on a wet Portland day? I swear those old school tools somehow work better in bad weather than the fancy electronic stuff. Plus there's something satisfying about proving to yourself you still got the basic skills. Were you able to get the laser fixed or did you just keep rolling with the chalk line for the rest of the job?
