Heard a senior drafter say layer standards are a waste of time
At a job site in Houston last month I overheard a guy with 30 years experience tell a newbie that layer naming conventions just slow you down. I get that some people work faster with their own system but when you hand off a file to someone else like me it turns into a guessing game. How do you deal with files where the layers are all jumbled up or renamed to some personal code?

...and that's probably why I spent three hours last Tuesday trying to figure out why a structural beam was on a layer called "Layer 452". I swear, some people treat layer names like a secret code they forget to share with the rest of the class. Personally, I'm the type who has to label everything in my own files or else I'll open them a week later and wonder if I accidentally imported a drawing from Mars. But I get it, maybe the old-school guys think it's faster, but when I get a file with layers like "asdf" and "test3" I just laugh and cry at the same time. Best I can do is set up a quick layer state restore and hope my sanity survives the day.

Ugh, YES. Layer 452? More like Layer "why do we do this to each other" lol. I swear some people just hit "new layer" and type whatever their cat walked across the keyboard. The "asdf" and "test3" combo makes me want to cry too, it's like they're daring us to fix their mess. Layer states are a lifesaver though, honestly the only thing keeping me from losing it half the time.
