Debate: Grid paper vs. blank sheets for drafting layouts?

I used to swear by grid paper for keeping everything straight, but after trying blank sheets last month for a complex floor plan, I feel like it gave me more freedom to adjust on the fly. Which one do you think works better for detailed work and why?

Honestly, this whole grid vs blank thing is just like so many choices in life where people think the tool is the problem when it's really about how you use it. @theawest and jordan653 were talking about paper being "just paper" but with layouts, the paper type literally changes how your brain sees space. I've noticed this pattern everywhere - like how some people need strict guidelines to feel safe starting something, while others choke under that structure and need total freedom to let ideas breathe. For detailed work specifically, I think it depends on whether your brain needs training wheels or not. Grid paper is great if you want consistency, but blank paper forces you to trust your eye more, which is a skill worth building.

Oh please, it's just paper, not a life or death decision.

Knew a friend @jordan653 who skipped getting a mortgage paper once and almost lost their house over it.
