A client in Denver asked me to draw a wall that wasn't there

I was doing a site survey for a kitchen remodel last fall. The homeowner kept pointing at a blank spot in the living room, saying 'Just extend this wall here for more cabinet space.' I had to explain, calmly, that the 'wall' was actually a load-bearing exterior corner from the original 1950s plans he was holding. He had been working off a scanned, un-updated drawing for six months. It took showing him the current city permit site plans to clear it up. Has anyone else had a client bring you their own old, wrong drawings as a starting point?

And yeah @river182 is spot on, city hall's filing system is usually a mess. My go-to move now is to just ask for the original permit number upfront and pull the latest approved set myself. Saves everyone a headache.

Wait, wouldn't the city have those updated plans on file already?

Oh man, you'd think so, but have you seen city hall's filing system?
