Staring at my broken dryer for three weeks while the part shipped from overseas

My dryer drum stopped spinning, and the only correct replacement belt was backordered from another country. I had friends telling me to just rig a generic belt, but I worried about safety and longevity, so I waited. Do you think it's worth the wait for specific parts, or is getting things running quickly more important in DIY?

Isn't a generic belt usually fine if it matches the specs, lol?

Did you need it to last more than a few months? I tried that once and it snapped on me pretty quick lol.

Yeah, I went with a universal belt for my washer once because I was in a hurry. It kept slipping off the pulley every other load, drove me nuts. Ended up ordering the exact part anyway and it’s been smooth for years now. Waiting saved me a second repair job.
