Shoutout to the plumber's putty I found in my dad's old toolbox

Last Tuesday my kitchen sink started leaking bad, like a full drip every two seconds. I was about to call a pro but remembered this gray tub of stuff in the garage. Followed the old instructions on the lid, packed it around the drain, and the leak stopped cold. Has anyone else fixed something big with a random tool they forgot they had?

Ever think that stuff was just for pros? I had a tube of that same gray putty sitting for years. Used it to seal a cracked toilet flange last month, saved me a hundred bucks on a service call. It's amazing what works when you just try it.

Honestly it's wild how much random stuff from the past still works perfectly. Feels like we're in a hurry to buy new things when the old fix is right there.

Yeah that "stuff was just for pros" part really hit home. I had a similar thing with an old tube of plumber's epoxy I found in my garage. My sink pipe developed a slow leak last winter and I was ready to call someone. Figured what the hell, I'd try the epoxy first. Cleaned the pipe, dried it good, mixed up the putty and pressed it on there. That was six months ago and it's still holding tight. Saved myself a decent amount of money and a whole lot of headache just by trying something that sat around for years.
