Picked a $30 hand planer over a $100 electric one for a single door trim job

I had to shave down a hollow core door that was binding on the frame, so I grabbed a cheap Stanley hand planer instead of renting a power one. Took me about 20 minutes of slow passes but I got a nice smooth edge with zero tear out. Has anyone else gone the manual route on a simple job and been surprised it worked better than the power tool?

Wait, you actually used a hand planer on a hollow core door? Like one of those little metal block planes with the blade sticking out? I always thought those would just chew up the particle board or whatever they pack the inside of those doors with, but I guess if you take real light passes it works. That must have felt way more controlled than a loud electric planer that wants to eat the whole edge in one go. I respect the patience, I probably would have grabbed a block of sandpaper and given up after two minutes.

You ever get so proud of a 20 minute job that you tell nobody?
