My cousin told me to always check the subfloor before laying new vinyl planks

We were at a family thing in Springfield last weekend and he mentioned a job where he skipped checking the subfloor because it looked fine. He said, 'A week later, a soft spot gave way and the whole section had to be pulled up.' That made me rethink my own rush to just get things down. Has anyone else had a subfloor surprise ruin a good floor install?
