My buddy laughed at me for using wood glue on a broken chair leg
Told me I should just buy a new one, but I said nah, let me try this trick my dad showed me. That sucker held up to 200 lbs after 24 hours of drying and still solid 3 months later. Anyone else find a glue fix that beat buying new?

Agree with @johnson.ryan, clamping is what makes the difference.

Oh man, I used to be totally on your friend's side honestly. I thought wood glue was just for like, basic craft projects and would never hold up to real weight or stress. But then I tried it on an old oak stool that kept wobbling (the leg joint was completely shot) and that stuff is still holding strong two years later. It really changed my mind about throwing things away when a bottle of glue costs less than $5. You just have to clamp it right and give it the full 24 hours to cure, that's the trick most people skip.

Yeah @johnson.ryan that 24 hour cure time is the part nobody believes until they actually try it. I had this old wooden chair my grandpa gave me, one of the back legs was basically just hanging on by the finish. I almost threw it out but figured why not try wood glue first. Cleaned out all the old crud, put a good layer of glue in there, and clamped it so tight I thought I was gonna crack something. Left it alone for a full day and a half just to be safe. That chair has held up through me leaning back, my kids climbing on it, everything. It's been maybe four years now and it's still rock solid. The clamp time really is the secret.
