Just spent 4 hours fixing a leaky toilet that took 20 minutes
I was trying to swap a flapper on a old toilet in my rental house in Phoenix last week. Turned the water off, replaced the part, turned it back on, and water was pooling everywhere because the gasket was shot. Ended up taking the whole tank off and cleaning 15 years of mineral buildup before it finally sealed. Has anyone else run into hidden problems like this when you think you're doing a simple 20 minute job?

...and then I tried fixing a garbage disposal with a chopstick and ended up calling a plumber.

with a chopstick" is the part that got me. I mean, a chopstick? That's like trying to fix a car engine with a butter knife. But here's something nobody talks about - a lot of these garbage disposal "repairs" are just people sticking random stuff in there and hoping for the best. You probably made it way worse by pushing whatever was stuck deeper into the mechanism. At least you stopped before you did something really dumb like using a metal fork and learning what a short circuit feels like. Honestly, calling a plumber was probably the smartest move you made that day.
