Had to pick between wood filler and a full Dutchman patch for a big gouge in my oak floor.
The gouge was about 3 inches long and pretty deep, and I went with the Dutchman patch using a scrap piece from the closet. It took me most of a Saturday to cut it in and glue it down, but the grain match is way better than filler would have been. Has anyone else tried this method on a floor that gets a lot of sun, and did the color change much over time?

Consider how the glue line ages under sunlight.

Look at how much direct sun most things even get, alexlewis. Is a little fading on the glue line really going to make the whole thing fall apart? Most stuff is built to last a good while. It feels like people worry about things that won't matter for twenty years. I've seen old furniture where the glue is the only thing still holding strong.
