Fixed my own washing machine after years of calling repair guys

Last month my 10 year old Whirlpool started making this godawful grinding noise on spin cycle. I was about to call the usual repair place in Cleveland that charges $80 just to look at it, then my buddy said check the YouTube videos first. Watched one from some dude in Texas who showed me it was just a clogged pump filter and a $12 belt from Amazon. Took me 45 minutes and I felt like an idiot for all the cash I threw at simple fixes over the years. Anyone else finally try something they assumed was too hard and it worked out?

That "paperclip and a YouTube video" line hits close to home. I once spent a whole Saturday trying to fix a rattling dryer, convinced it needed a new motor. Turns out a sock had somehow wedged itself into the blower wheel, and I could have fixed it with nothing but a screwdriver and ten minutes of my time. I felt like a real genius when I pulled that thing out, especially after I'd already looked up prices for a replacement motor. These days I pretty much just hand the phone to my wife and say "tell me what's wrong so I can watch a video before I break something.

Heard my neighbor fixed his dryer with a paperclip and a YouTube video last week.
