Had to sand my deck three times before someone pointed out I was going against the grain the whole time
My neighbor Dave came over after 6 hours of work and showed me the dust lines going the wrong way, which explained why every board looked like it had scratches instead of a smooth finish.

Honestly that hits way too close to home. I swear the universe has a built in neighbor detection system that only activates after you've already messed up the whole project. It's like they wait until you're at peak frustration, then stroll over with a cold drink and drop the knowledge bomb that would've saved you hours. Ngl, I've learned more from random dudes walking past my house with a dog than from any YouTube tutorial or instruction manual. Tbh I'm convinced half the people on my street have some kind of secret pact to let me struggle just so they can feel superior when they finally step in. You gotta appreciate that kind of patience though, even if it's brutal in the moment.

...and that's honestly how most of my home projects go. I'll spend hours doing something the hard way, get super frustrated, then someone walks over and points out one simple thing I was missing. It's like the universe has this rule that you have to make the same mistake three times before someone finally tells you the right way. I swear, half the stuff I've learned about fixing things came from neighbors just wandering by and going "hey, you know you're supposed to..." while I'm standing there covered in sawdust.
