That weird GPU crash that took me 3 days to fix in my basement in Boise

My RX 580 kept crashing in games but ran fine in benchmarks, drove me crazy. I tried undervolting, driver sweeps, even reseated the thing 4 times. Turns out the power cable from my 8 year old EVGA 650W PSU had a single melted pin that looked fine unless you held it up to a flashlight. Anybody else ever find a dumb little physical damage like that after blaming software forever?

Used to be the type that always blamed drivers or overheating first, swore it was never a hardware problem unless something was obviously smoking. Then my old GTX 970 started artifacting in menus but ran Furmark fine for hours. Found a cracked solder joint on the back of the card after a buddy told me to look with a magnifying glass. That changed my whole approach. Now every weird crash gets a physical inspection before I even open any software. Simple stuff like bent pins or cracked capacitors are way easier to miss than people think.

Damn, that's a brutal lesson. Now I always look first too.
