That $20 SATA cable I bought saved me from a fried SSD

I was building a budget gaming rig last Saturday and figured my old cable from 2016 would be fine. Sure enough, the connector was a little loose and the drive kept dropping out during the Windows install. A pack of three locking SATA cables cost me twenty bucks at Micro Center and the drive snapped in tight with a nice click. No more boot loops or mystery disconnects. Anyone else had a cheap cable cause a weird intermittent problem like that?

Yeah, that "mystery disconnect" part hit home for me. I had a SATA cable that looked fine but it would just randomly drop the drive in the middle of file transfers (super annoying when you're trying to copy a Steam library). Swapped it out for a locking cable like you said and the drive has been solid ever since. I think people don't realize how much of a difference that little latch makes, especially if your case has any vibration from fans or a pump.

That "mystery disconnect" bit is so real. I had one where the drive would work fine for hours, then just vanish while I was in the middle of a game loading screen (talk about frustrating). Swapped to a locking cable and it never happened again. It's wild how something that small can make or break reliability.
