I finally upgraded to a $50 thermal paste instead of the cheap $5 stuff

My CPU temps dropped by 12 degrees after switching, but my buddy says I just wasted money on hype. Has anyone else seen a real difference or is it all marketing fluff?

Ha, @jesse84 I've been the guy buying cheap toothpaste my whole life so this felt like a HUGE leap of faith for me. Honestly I think I just got lucky with my specific setup because my temps were really bad before.

Holy crap, a 12 degree drop from just swapping paste? That's insane. I've always used the cheap stuff myself and never bothered to try the expensive stuff because I figured it was all snake oil. But hearing that kind of difference makes me wonder if I've been missing out the whole time. What CPU and cooler are you running?
