Why does nobody measure the GPU clearance before buying a case

I was helping a buddy cram a 3-fan RTX card into a mid-tower and we had to literally file down the drive cage to make it fit... took us 45 minutes of grinding. Seriously, just pull out a tape measure before you click buy, it saves so much headache.

Wait, don't most case listings have the max GPU length in the specs though? I mean I usually just check that number and it works fine for me.

That 45 minutes of grinding seems like a lot, but idk if it's really that big of a deal. I mean, I've definitely shoved cards into cases where the specs said they fit but the actual room inside was way tighter than expected. Maybe it's just me, but I think people get too worked up over a little bit of metal filing or bending. Half the fun of building a PC is making it work with what you've got, not measuring every millimeter down to the last screw hole.
