That $60 custom PSU shroud I ordered was a total waste

Spent 60 bucks on a laser-cut acrylic shroud from a modding site and the holes didn't line up with my case's mounting points. Had to drill new ones myself and it cracked on the third hole. Anyone else get burned on pre-made mod parts?

Man yeah acrylic is just brittle as hell for stuff like that. Aluminum or even thick ABS plastic is way more forgiving.

Honestly I've been there. My first try at a custom shroud was for an NZXT case and I learned the hard way that "universal" parts are rarely universal. The holes were off by about 2mm but that's all it took to crack the acrylic. Now I just buy a plain sheet of clear acrylic from a local hardware store, trace the mounting points myself with a sharpie, and use a step drill bit with some cutting oil. Costs like 15 bucks and I can get it perfect. That pre-made stuff is just gambling with your wallet half the time.

You mentioned cracking the acrylic and that got me thinking... what if you used a thin sheet of aluminum instead? It bends a little if the holes are off, way more forgiving than acrylic. I picked up a sheet at a scrap yard for like 5 bucks and cut it with tin snips. Plus it doubles as a little heatsink for that area around the GPU...
