PSA: Stop putting glass panels on carpeted floors

I was helping a friend move his rig last Tuesday and watched his tempered glass side panel hit the carpet and explode into a million pieces. He had it sitting on the floor while he was swapping out a fan. Said he didn't think about it because the carpet looked soft. Now he's out $60 for a replacement panel and had to vacuum glass shards out of his shag for two hours. Has anyone else seen this happen or am I the only one who learned this rule the easy way?

Oh man, that's a pricey lesson (furniture feet are cheap, you know?).

Oh wow, I never thought about how those little rubber feet are basically insurance for a much bigger headache. But honestly, even with furniture feet, sometimes the real issue is the floor itself. I had a landlord once who laid down super cheap laminate that would just buckle and warp even if you looked at it wrong. So now I always check if my floors are even worth protecting before I start blaming the furniture. Does your house have old, soft wood floors or that new click-lock stuff they slap down in apartment complexes?
