Old timer told me to use zip ties instead of velcro straps for cable management - big mistake

I was at a local LAN party in Denver last summer and this guy who builds servers for a living swore by zip ties. Said velcro straps are for amateurs and real builders use zip ties to keep things tight. So I went home and redid my whole build inside a Corsair 4000D case with about 80 zip ties. Looked great for a week until I had to swap out my GPU. Had to cut every single one of them with a pair of snips and I scratched up my PSU shroud in the process. Now my case has these little nubs everywhere from the cut ends and velcro would have cost me maybe 8 bucks total. Anyone else had a similar experience with a know-it-all giving bad advice?

charlie_fisher45 nailed it, zip ties belong in a toolbox not a PC.

Zip ties are for HVAC work, not computer cases.
