Noticed a trend with vertical GPU mounts in older cases

Last week I tried putting a vertical mount in my old NZXT H440 from 2014 and the thermals jumped 12 degrees lol. The gap between the glass and the fans is just too tight on these older designs. Has anyone else seen this issue with cases from around that era?

My old Corsair 750D was the same way. Tried a vertical mount kit and my 1080 Ti shot up to 84C under load. The fan was basically pressed right up against the side panel with maybe 8mm of breathing room. It's like these cases were designed before anyone thought about airflow for vertical mounts. My buddy did the same thing in his Fractal Define R4 and his card started thermal throttling in like 20 minutes. At that point you're just cooking your GPU for looks lol. Better off just cutting a hole in the side panel or sticking to horizontal.
