My attempt to watercool a toaster-sized ITX build ended with a 3am flood

I got this wild idea to cram a full custom loop into a 10-liter case I picked up for $40 on Facebook Marketplace. After 6 hours of bending soft tubing with a hair dryer, I hooked everything up and filled it with coolant around midnight. Forgot to tighten one fitting on the GPU block and woke up to a puddle soaking my desk mat and half my keyboard. Learned that expensive coolant stains everything green, and also that my wife is surprisingly chill about 2am kitchen towel raids. Has anyone else had a leak disaster with tight builds, or am I just the lucky one?

You mentioned "bending soft tubing with a hair dryer," but soft tubing doesn't really need heat to bend. That's more for rigid acrylic or PETG tubing. Soft silicone or PVC just bends around corners on its own, you just gotta use fittings to hold it in place. Heating it up with a hair dryer could actually weaken the tube or make it kink worse if you're not careful. I learned this the hard way when I melted a piece of soft tubing trying to force a tight radius with a heat gun. For a tiny ITX case like that, soft tubing is actually the smart move since you can snake it into tight spots without special tools. Just watch your fitting angles and make sure everything is snug before you power up the pump. That 3am panic is rough though, coolant stains are no joke once they dry on a desk mat.

I saw on a forum once that some people actually use aquarium grade soft tubing for tight builds since it's a little more flexible than the PC specific stuff. Still sounds like a rough way to learn about fitting tightness though, at least your wife didn't lose it over the green stain situation.
