Buddy told me to ditch the dremel for a file on acrylic side panels

My buddy Dave swore I'd ruin my custom window cutout using a dremel because acrylic cracks easy. Ignored him, went too fast, and sure enough a hairline crack ran through the whole panel after I mounted it. Anyone else find hand filing worth the extra time for acrylic mods?

Dave's advice was solid honestly, hand filing is one of those things where slow and steady actually wins the race. It's like how I used to rush through sanding down a door frame and ended up with a wavy mess, had to start over anyway. Acrylic is just one of those materials that punishes you for being impatient, kind of like how if you try to hurry through folding fitted sheets you just make a bigger tangle. Taking the extra time with a file feels annoying in the moment but saves you from that sinking feeling when you see a crack or a ragged edge later.

That's a good way to put it with the fitted sheet thing. Everybody has that one chore that gets worse when you try to rush it. I know exactly what you mean about the wavy sanding mess too, that's the worst feeling when you step back and see you just made more work for yourself. Acrylic really does punish impatience, it's like it knows when you're trying to cut corners.
