Used to prop my laptop on a stack of books for airflow, now I use a $12 wire rack

Back in college I thought any hard surface was fine until my Lenovo started throttling during a 3-hour Zoom class. Found a metal cooling rack from the kitchen at a thrift store for twelve bucks and it lifted the laptop enough for airflow to actually move underneath. Now my temps dropped about 8 degrees and I don't worry about it melting the desk. Anyone else switch from a janky setup to something cheap that actually works?

Hold on, you're saying the wire rack actually dropped your temps by 8 degrees? That seems like a lot just from lifting it an inch or so. I've only ever seen about a 3 or 4 degree change with risers like that.

Fair point @pipera50, but my cheap smoker runs hot so the extra airflow made a bigger difference for me.
