Stopped using compressed air after a disaster at a computer shop in Austin

I used to swear by canned air for cleaning laptop fans, but after watching a buddy at a repair shop in Austin ruin a motherboard with moisture from the can, I switched. He was blowing out a dusty laptop and water droplets shot out, shorting the board instantly. Now I only use a small vacuum with a brush attachment or take the fan out completely. Costs me maybe $25 for a decent handheld vac instead of $8 a can. Anyone else had canned air backfire on them?

Oh man, that's rough. I've seen it happen too, a buddy was cleaning his own rig and a big wet blob came out of the can and landed right on the GPU... fried it on the spot. I switched to a datavac style blower after that, it's like a mini leaf blower for electronics and no moisture at all. Cost me about $60 but I've had it for years now. Also learned the hard way to always hold the can upright and give it a shake before spraying... but honestly the vacuum or taking the fan out is the safest bet.
