My laptop dropped 12 degrees after I put it on a wire cooling rack from the kitchen

Read a post the other day about someone using a mesh strainer as a laptop stand and thought it was a joke... but now I'm starting to wonder if that's actually genius or something. I mean, air can flow right through the holes so it makes sense for cooling. My own laptop gets hot enough to cook an egg on, I might have to raid my kitchen drawers now. Wonder if a muffin tin would work too, just flip it upside down or something weird like that.

Muffin tin upside down? That sounds like a disaster waiting to happen with all those little cups blocking airflow even more. The wire rack thing at least makes some sense since air can move through the gaps, but a mesh strainer is just gonna trap heat under there, not help. People get so wound up about laptop temps dropping a few degrees, it's borderline obsessive. My own machine runs hot and I just prop it up on a couple of old textbooks, works fine for years now. Unless your laptop is literally shutting down from heat, a 12 degree drop probably doesn't change anything you'd actually notice.
