Found out my 2015 laptop's cooling fan was way undersized, a total 3 CFM joke
I stumbled on an old service manual PDF from HP for my Pavilion from 2015 and the spec sheet said the fan moves only 3 cubic feet per minute. That blew my mind (pun intended) because I used to repaste and clean that thing religiously and it still throttled after an hour of Minecraft. I found the PDF on some archive site while looking for driver downloads. Has anyone else dug up old specs on their machine and been shocked at how weak the cooling was from the factory?

Wait, they actually designed a 3 CFM fan for a laptop that had an i5 or i7 in it? Seems like HP was just ASKING for thermal throttling, especially since those 2015 models already ran hot.

Did you ever try a cooling pad with a big fan underneath? I threw one under mine and it dropped temps by almost 10 degrees, enough to stop the throttling.
