Chatted with a buddy who works IT about why my gaming laptop sounds like a jet engine
He said the biggest mistake people make is setting their laptop flat on a desk with no airflow underneath. I popped mine up on four bottle caps and it dropped 8 degrees under load. Has anyone else found a random object that works better than a store-bought stand?

Flip it upside down, better airflow and kills dust buildup.

Airflow wise it doesn't really matter which way the fan faces, the motor is doing the same work either way. But flipping it upside down lets gravity pull dust off the blades when you clean it, which is a nice bonus if you're the type who actually remembers to do that. Main thing is making sure the power cord doesn't get pinched if you flip a box fan that wasn't designed to sit on its side. I've seen a couple of those start buzzing funny after a week or two because the cord got squished.
