Chat with my neighbor Dave about laptop cooling pads changed my approach
Dave saw me using a $5 plastic stand from a thrift store and said "you're blocking the intake, not helping it." He pointed out my fan was recirculating hot air back into the vents because of how the legs sat. Now I use a wire rack from the kitchen that cost me nothing and my temps dropped about 12 degrees. Anybody else ever miss the obvious fix because you overthought the hardware?

That part about recirculating hot air really got me. I had the exact same issue with a cheap plastic stand I bought online. It felt like I was being smart by getting something "designed" for laptops, but it was actually making things worse. Sometimes the simplest stuff works best, like a wire rack from the kitchen. Makes you wonder how much money people waste on fancy gear that doesn't even help.

Ain't it funny how we do that with so many things? I had a buddy who spent a hundred bucks on a special "gaming mouse pad" with RGB lights and a hard surface, but his aim was still off. Turns out the thick rubber wrist rest was tilting his hand just wrong. He swapped it for a plain old cloth pad from the dollar store and started playing better that same night. We get so caught up in buying the fancy labeled stuff we forget the basics. It's like everyone's trying to solve problems with a bigger budget instead of common sense.
