Vent: My basement drywall job in Toledo looked awful until I switched to a 12 inch knife

Last month I was finishing my basement and the first wall I mudded turned out really lumpy. I was using a 6 inch taping knife and it just left ridges everywhere. After three tries, I grabbed my old 12 inch finishing knife and the difference was huge, it smoothed everything out in one pass. Anyone have a trick for getting clean inside corners without that special corner tool?

Ever try mudding a ceiling with a tiny knife? That's a special kind of hell lol. My arms were killing me before I wised up and got a bigger blade. For your corners, I just fold a piece of cardboard to make a stiff crease and use it like a guide for my knife, works in a pinch.

Who even uses a tiny knife for that? You're just making the job ten times harder for no reason. Bigger tools are always the move.

Wait you were trying to do a whole wall with a 6 inch knife? That's wild, no wonder it was a mess. The jump to a 12 inch is a total game changer for sure. Sam530's cardboard trick for corners is actually genius, gonna remember that. I just freehand mine and they always look a little rough, so I'm stealing that idea. Honestly the right tool makes all the difference, you just proved it.
