Talked to a neighbor who's been doing his own plumbing for 40 years and it hit different
I was complaining to my neighbor Dave about how my shower drain was slow and I was gonna just dump Drano in it. He stopped me and said I was basically killing my pipes for no good reason. Told me to take apart the trap and clean it by hand instead, said it takes 20 minutes tops. So I did it yesterday and pulled out a solid clump of hair and soap scum the size of my fist. Now the drain is perfect and I feel dumb for nearly pouring chemicals in there.

@jordan653 idk why but that feeling of pulling out a giant hair clump is honestly so satisfying even though it's gross. I mean you saved your pipes and now you probably feel like a mini plumber like Dave.

Used to think Drano was just the easy way to fix slow drains, never really thought about what it does to the pipes long term. Hearing your neighbor's story makes me realize how dumb I've been too - I've definitely dumped that stuff down without a second thought. Seeing you pull out that clump of gunk made me cringe knowing I could've saved myself the chemical bill for years. Guess I never stopped to think that taking apart a simple trap is way easier than dealing with corroded pipes later on. This whole thing honestly changed my mind about those chemical cleaners for good.
