Rant: Just read that a standard 2x4 is actually only 1.5 inches by 3.5 inches.

Found this in a lumberyard FAQ and it explains why my deck frame was off. Does this 'nominal sizing' drive anyone else nuts, or is it just a thing you get used to?

Oh man, wait until you learn about a 2x10. It's a real letdown. I built some shelves and the math was all wrong because I trusted the label. Had to re-cut every single board. Now I just assume everything is lying to me by about half an inch.

Yeah, that's the worst. I just add half an inch to my mental math for any cut now. Saves so much headache.
