Hot take: that cheap dollar store spackle isn't worth the $2 you save

I had a neighbor in Cleveland last summer who insisted on using it for every wall repair, and after 3 months every single patch cracked right through the paint, has anyone else dealt with that flaky stuff?

Nah that stuff is basically play doh with a paint job.

Yeah that "play doh with a paint job" from @hugo_ellis is spot on. I learned that lesson the hard way in my own kitchen. Cheap spackle shrinks and cracks every time, especially if the temp changes at all. You end up patching the patch three times before giving up and buying the good stuff anyway. That $2 savings just isn't worth the headache.
