Appreciation post: My attempt at a limewash finish turned the wall a surprising pink
I followed a tutorial from a 2008 magazine and used hydrated lime from a local farm store, but after it dried overnight the whole accent wall had a definite pinkish tint instead of the soft white I wanted. I learned the hard way that the mineral content in your water can really mess with the chemical reaction. Has anyone in the Midwest had this happen and found a water filter that fixes it?

My buddy Nate in Indiana had his whole bathroom turn peach from the well water. He ended up getting a basic under-sink filter from the hardware store and it worked on the second try.

That 2008 magazine thing is actually a bit off. Those old articles were talking about iron in the water, not peach coloring. The peach tint comes from tannins, which is organic stuff from leaves and soil, not minerals. Iron turns water orange or brown, not peach. Tannins are more common in well water near swamps or heavy woods.
