Tweaked a skin file in Skyrim and it looked way better than the big 'HD' texture pack I downloaded
I spent like 4 hours last weekend trying to get that fancy 4K texture mod for Whiterun to work, but it kept crashing my game and the colors looked weird. Out of frustration, I just opened the default skin file for a guard's armor in Notepad and changed a few values for the dirt and metal shine. The result was a cleaner, more natural look that actually fit the game's style, and it ran perfectly on my old laptop. Has anyone else had better luck just tweaking tiny settings instead of piling on huge mods?

Oh yeah, I did the same thing with some landscape textures and it looked way better than the big pack I downloaded!

Exactly, @nancys90, it's wild how sometimes less is more with these games. I've noticed that the huge texture packs often mess with the lighting and make things look too shiny or flat, while a small manual tweak keeps the original atmosphere intact. Honestly, I've started opening up more vanilla files to adjust things like roughness or color balance instead of downloading a whole new mod.
