TIL that almost every 'remastered' game texture pack is actually just upscaled with AI

Was digging into the files for a Skyrim retexture mod everyone raves about. Used a diff tool to compare the original textures to the 'remastered' ones and found they're literally just the same 256x256 files run through an AI upscaler. No hand painting, no new detail, just blurry messes with sharper edges. Am I the only one who actually checks the raw file sizes before downloading these packs?

Come on now, is it REALLY that big of a deal? A LOT of mods use AI upscaling now because it's way faster than hand painting every tiny rock and blade of grass. You're gonna see a pretty big difference in how crisp things look even if it's just a simple upscale. Maybe it's not as impressive as a custom hand painted texture, but it's not like the game is unplayable because of it. Honestly, the bigger question is why you're downloading 256x256 texture packs in the first place when the game can handle way higher resolution stuff.

256x256 is fine when the art style actually stays consistent unlike AI upscaling.
