So many people are using the wrong texture format for their mods

I keep seeing folks upload mods with DXT5 compression on normal maps. That's going to give you weird rainbow colors and bad lighting. Stick with DXT1 for normals unless you need alpha, I learned this the hard way after 20 hours of troubleshooting my Skyrim replacer pack.

20 hours of troubleshooting sounds rough, but I gotta ask - is this really a huge deal for most people playing modded games? I've seen plenty of Skyrim and Fallout mods with the "wrong" texture format and they still look fine in game to my eyes. Normal maps with DXT5 sometimes have a slight color shift but it's not like the whole world explodes. Unless you're making super high res 4K texture packs for photography mode, I doubt 99% of users even notice the difference. Most casual modders just grab whatever looks good and move on. Are you sure this isn't more of a modding purist thing than an actual gameplay problem?

@olivia_chen35 Have you actually tried playing with the wrong formats side by side and seen the difference?
