Hit 1000 texture swaps on a single game save and I'm still finding more

I was messing with a copy of Skyrim from 2017 and just passed the 1000 mark for replaced textures. That number surprised me because I never planned to go that far, I just started swapping mud and rock textures for fun. It matters because I thought maybe 200 would be the limit before things broke or looked weird, but the game still runs smooth. Has anyone else hit a bigger number than that on a single mod project?

And honestly that's the thing that gets me about texture modding, you think you've covered everything and then you stumble on some random cave wall that's using a completely different normal map than the one you swapped three years ago. It's a rabbit hole for sure, I started with just wanting cleaner stone textures and now I've got custom parallax maps for every single Dwemer ruin tile. The fact that it runs smooth at 1000 swaps says a lot about how stable the engine can be if you're doing the right kind of replacements.

Honestly "right kind of replacements" is the key there, I think people blame the engine for instability when really they're just piling on poorly optimized 4K textures that should've been 2K. If you're smart about your file sizes and normal map compression it handles way more than most people give it credit for.
